The Paddox

The Brief

Extensions and alterations

Completed August 2002

A standard house with 1960’s ground floor extensions on an awkward triangular site.

By adding a second staircase, and respecting the building’s 1960’s detailing, a first floor was added with a series of flat roofs designed to cascade down across the rear elevation. The central core was then clad in cedar with its roof kicked up over the original ridge to form a visual lift to the façade and also allow high level east light to flood one of the new bedrooms and the landing.

Providing new bedrooms allowed the ground floor to be reorganised and brought the kitchen into the rear of the building facing the garden.
