Conversion of listed stables.

By removing the corrugated iron roof, over roofing and thatching, the stables have regained their original character. The whole of the timber frame was carefully stripped back to its skeleton before a series of detailed and sympathetic timber frame repairs were carried out. Internally, a gallery has been added at each end of the building, carefully threading between the existing historic timber frame. To the east, the gallery forms a study area overlooking the main open space and allows for a kitchen below. To the west, the gallery forms a first floor bedroom behind a glazed screen and allows a double bedroom and compact shower room to be accommodated below. The careful detailing and construction of the oak staircases has maximised the open space in the middle which makes the best of the south light which pours in through the now glazed stable doors. Planning and listed building consent has recently been obtained for extending the associated modern garage and linking it to the listed stable.
