Cromer Hall

The Brief

Extensions and alterations to a Grade II listed house.

Built

Completed March 2008

Description

Existing single storey buildings provided cramped and impractical accommodation at the back of Cromer Hall and the brief was to open up the back area of the property to provide living spaces which related well to the beautiful garden, a nursery/play room area, a photography studio, a utility room and a relocated study.

A well reasoned dialogue with the conservation officer enabled consent to be granted for a sizeable, but respectfully proportioned, extension to be built largely on the footprint of the existing collection of single storey buildings. Care was taken to ensure that the magnificent walnut tree was retained and materials were carefully selected to match the existing buildings. Oak windows, floors and external posts provide a patina to the project that quickly helped the extension sit very well against the remainder of the house.
